Pelicans Blowout Kings in Big Win

This is a subtitle for your new post

CJ McCollum could not be stopped.

Trey Murphy played like a veteran.

Larry Nance Jr. connected the dots.

And the New Orleans Pelicans defeated the Sacramento Kings, 136-104 on Sunday, Feb. 5 at home.

Herb Jones’ defense was contagious as the team turned defense into offense the whole game. The entire team was phenomenal in the win tonight. Naji Marshall was hoopin’, Willy Hernangomez was everywhere he needed to be and scored a double-double, Jaxson Hayes moved to the open spaces instead of standing in the corner too long, and Jose’ Alvarado was quiet but proficient.

The Pelicans were in control the whole game, beginning with McCollum making the first basket of the night. Brandon Ingram had the night off with “toe soreness,” but with it being the second game in as many nights, resting the Pelicans’ star was most likely just to give him rest.

Jonas Valančiūnas did not play after he injured his right knee in Saturday’s game against the Lakers. However, the MRI came back with no damage to the knee so he sat only as a precautionary measure.

The Pelicans are now 27-27 on the season and sitting in eighth place in the Western Conference. This team definitely seems to have busted out of their slump and are back to regular form. And all of this was done tonight without Ingram and Zion Williamson. The rest of this season is going to be fun.

Team Stats (Trail Blazers at Pelicans) Final Score: 120-143 Rebounds: 419-57 Assists: 27-36 Blocks: 7-8 Steals: 5-10 Turnovers: 15-8 Stat Leaders Scoring Leaders: Shaedon Sharpe, 21; Trey Murphy III, 24 Rebound Leaders: Kris Murray, 9; Yves Missi, Saddiq Bey, 8 Assist Leaders: Deni Avdija, 6; Derik Queen, 7 My Player of the Game: Derik Queen Chrissy's Key Takeaways * The Pelicans have won their fourth game of the season. Yay ! * Jordan Poole was back tonight and he made a world of difference. His three-point shooting, confidence, and leadership were a ton of help. * Derik Queen is a problem for all other 29 teams in this league. This kid has a vision that hasn't been seen in any recent rookies, especially for a center. * Bryce McGowens was the second-leading scorer in this game with 23 points. He's stepped up in a big way. * In surprising news, Zion Williamson is questionable for Sunday's game at the Chicago Bulls. This is the first time in what seems like years that Zion's health is actually improving much sooner than projected. Whether this is a sign of Zion pushing himself or James Borrego pushing him, it's nice to see. Follow @TheKneaux on X, and follow me there too, @SportsChrissy.
