Patty's Players - Volume 1

Patty V • July 25, 2022

I introduce you to a new weekly drop, Pattys Players. Each week I will feature one select player to showcase in an article. As we evolve, you may find a pattern to the selected players, but I’d be lying if I told you I will come in with a set criteria. For Patty’s Players its just one of those when you know you know feelings.

This week, without further ado, I give you my player: Skylar Diggins-Smith.

Diggins-Smith has quietly been having herself quite the season this year. She is currently averaging 20/5/2, respectfully. This places her in the top 10 for ppg (3rd), apg (7th) and spg (4th). Skylar also ranks 3rd overall in fantasy points per game, if you’re into that kind of thing.

However, these numbers are NOT the reason I have selected her as our Player this week. I present to you exhibit a:

Or, if it wasn’t enough to have her make Stephanie Talbot look like an extra in the movie, ATL, perhaps we should take a look at exhibit b:

You see, not only did Skylar Diggins-Smith show the world that she was still one of the baddest women on the planet, she also did it in complete style, rocking Kobe Bryant’s high school jersey as she walked into the arena, on her way to dropping 35/6/6.

For anyone out there not watching the WNBA, this is the kind of stuff you’re missing on a nightly basis.

Team Stats (Trail Blazers at Pelicans) Final Score: 120-143 Rebounds: 419-57 Assists: 27-36 Blocks: 7-8 Steals: 5-10 Turnovers: 15-8 Stat Leaders Scoring Leaders: Shaedon Sharpe, 21; Trey Murphy III, 24 Rebound Leaders: Kris Murray, 9; Yves Missi, Saddiq Bey, 8 Assist Leaders: Deni Avdija, 6; Derik Queen, 7 My Player of the Game: Derik Queen Chrissy's Key Takeaways * The Pelicans have won their fourth game of the season. Yay ! * Jordan Poole was back tonight and he made a world of difference. His three-point shooting, confidence, and leadership were a ton of help. * Derik Queen is a problem for all other 29 teams in this league. This kid has a vision that hasn't been seen in any recent rookies, especially for a center. * Bryce McGowens was the second-leading scorer in this game with 23 points. He's stepped up in a big way. * In surprising news, Zion Williamson is questionable for Sunday's game at the Chicago Bulls. This is the first time in what seems like years that Zion's health is actually improving much sooner than projected. Whether this is a sign of Zion pushing himself or James Borrego pushing him, it's nice to see. Follow @TheKneaux on X, and follow me there too, @SportsChrissy.
