NFL Futures: Chris Olave is Set for a Break Out Season.

Marcelo Unda • August 12, 2023

The bright spot for the New Orleans Saints last season was drafting the 22 year old wide receiver out of Ohio State in the first round. Saints finished 7-10 with Andy Dalton playing quarterback for the majority of the year. Olave had a productive first year. He finished with 72 receptions, 1,042 yards, and 4 touchdowns. Olave has poised himself to be the alpha in the Saints offense, and make a significant impact with Derek Carr playing quarterback. Let's breakdown what Olave has in store for himself this season, and explain why I will be betting the OVER on his props.

1. Olave over 1000.5 Receiving yards

The second-year wide receiver has shown through out all of training camp why he is the number one option out of this receiving group. His size, quickness, and route running have already shown improvement from last year's offense that ranked 16th in passing in the NFL. I am expecting Carr to improve the passing game to help this team with offensive production. Olave made the best of his 119 targets last year breaking 1,000 yards all while averaging 69.5 (nice) yards per game in 15 games. If the target share increases, which I expect since we aren't dealing with Dalton and Winston under center, Olave's yards prop should be target to aim for when looking at receiving yards future. Especially when the Saints are facing passing defenses like: Jaguars, Titans, Vikings, Lions, and Falcons (x2) that ranked 25th in passing defense last year in the NFL.

2. Olave over 4.5 touchdowns

I was shocked to see even money for Olave to get 5 TDs at first glance. Alvin Kamara is expected to miss the first three games of the season. Michael Thomas has only played a total of 8 games since 2019. The Saints invested in a first round pick in 2022 & traded their 2023 first to get into the first round to draft Olave. The team knows how talented he is. The best part is he is showing it on the field as well.

Fantasy Outlook

Olave sits at WR 12 in PPR rankings with an ADP of 28. I wouldn't mine taking him as my WR 1, but would only consider taking him once after Garrett Wilson (WR 10) is off the board. Consider him in the 2nd round depending on your roster construction. The reason I took into Olave's Fantasy outlook when considering these props is to see what the community thinks of Olave's outlook for 2023.

Here's two national fantasy writers who see the path for Olave to have a successful season. I believe in the Saints evaluating talent, and providing Olave with the resources to succeed as a player. I am locking in these props for over 1000.5 receiving yards and over 4.5 receiving touchdowns for the season. Let me know if you have any futures that you will be locking in before the football season kicks off.

After a weather-delayed kickoff, loyal NOLA Gold fans were treated to a rollercoaster of a match that ended with a well-earned 44-36 victory over the Seattle Seawolves at the Shrine. This win moved NOLA Gold into 3rd place in the Major League Rugby Eastern Conference standings. Coach Danny Lee said of the team's response to the delay, “We just had to control the controllables. Once we told the boys the definitive time for kickoff, we had a plan ready to go. In terms of game plan, we had to be a little bit more direct, and we had to kick and adapt quickly.” NOLA Gold set the tone early, taking an initial 3-0 lead thanks to a steady penalty kick from Dorian Jones. Though Seattle answered quickly with a try to make it 7-3, the Gold launched into a dominant scoring stretch. Isaac Te Tamaki powered across the try line to ignite the offense, followed by back-to-back tries from the relentless Jonah Mau’u. Jones continued to add points from the tee, stretching the Gold’s lead to 27-7. Just before halftime, the Seawolves found a breakthrough and scored at the buzzer, narrowing the margin to 27-14. However, NOLA emerged from the locker room with purpose. Xavier Mignot wasted no time reestablishing momentum with a try that pushed the lead to 34-14. Seattle fought back with intensity, capitalizing on back-to-back tries to bring the score to 34-24. But NOLA responded with composure, as Jones added another penalty to keep the visitors at bay, 37-24. The closing stages of the match saw both teams exchanging blows. Seattle’s try was met by a decisive moment from Joe Taufete’e, who muscled through defenders for a critical score. Luke Campbell’s conversion extended the lead to 44-29. Though Seattle scored one final try at the buzzer, it wasn’t enough. With a final score of 44-36, NOLA Gold walked away with a crucial five-point win in front of a roaring home crowd and strengthens their postseason hopes with a firm grip on 3rd place in the East. Their next match will be on the road against the San Diego Legion on May 4th at 4:00 PM CT. For tickets and more details, please visit www.nolagoldrugby.com
