Herb Jones Is Here To Stay

The New Orleans Pelicans and Herb Jones agree on a 4 yr/$54 million extension.

First reported by Andrew Lopez, The Pels and Herb Jones have agreed on a new 4-year deal worth $54 million. This deal does not include a player or team option. Securing the services of one of the top defenders in the NBA for just over the equivalent of the NTMLE amount is a major win by David Griffin and the FO.

The second-round pick out of Alabama came into the NBA with little fanfare but quickly became a fan favorite in New Orleans. Universally seen as one of if not the best wing defender in the league, Jones has garnered All-Defensive team votes in each of his first two seasons.

One could say that Jones has room to improve from the shooting aspect of the game, but he more than makes up for it with his ability to do everything else well on the floor. This move by the FO puts the team one step closer to securing its young core for the long haul, with most certainly a Trey Murphy extension next up on the docket. “NOT ON HERB” will be a staple in New Orleans for the foreseeable future, and you’d be hard-pressed to find a fan that is mad about it.
