Hall of Famer to Join New Orleans Saints Coaching Staff

New Orleans, LA- A New Orleans Saints legend will join the team’s coaching staff for training camp and preseason in 2023.

This year All-pro defensive lineman and six-time pro bowler La’Roi Glover will join Dennis Allen’s crew as a Bill Walsh Diversity Coaching Fellowship member.

The program has worked with the NFL to provide opportunities to observe, participate, and gain experience with all 32 clubs since being established in 1987. Those talented individuals selected to work with teams as part of a diverse group all possess the same eventual goal of gaining a full-time coaching position.

During Glover’s five-year span in the Big Easy, he accumulated 50 sacks and was a true menace for opposing offenses. Glover was named to the NFL’s Hall of Fame All-2000s Team and got inducted into the Saints’ Hall of Fame in 2013.

Although Glover’s career did not begin wearing black and gold, his more prominent playing years would be in New Orleans. The defensive tackle out of San Diego State was a fifth-round draft pick and began his stint with the then- Oakland Raiders in 1996. After failing to make much of an impact in his rookie year, Glover was released before training camp and picked up by the Saints in ‘97. After his days in Nola, Glover finished his career as a Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants member.

Dipping into the former player pool for temporary coaching roles is a concept that has been introduced previously for New Orleans. Most recently, the Saints have had wideout Ted Ginn Jr. teaching up the young receivers in mini-camps. Last offseason, Jahri Evans and Ty Warren joined the staff. Evans landed an assistant offensive line coaching position, the same spot Zach Strief held in 2021-22. Strief will join former Saints head coach Sean Payton as his offensive line coach in Denver for 2023. Glover is hoping to come in and be able to light a fire under the young defensive line of the Saints.
