The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Plan to Finally Have a Mascot Again!
After over a decade without an official mascot and fans looking for answers, it appears the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns plan to finally put an end to that. According to Acadiana News First, the University of Louisiana at Lafayette is expected to unveil the Catahoula dog as its new official mascot.
Throughout the football bye week, UL Athletics social media and school billboards have hinted at a big announcement, leaving everyone in Acadiana curious as to what is happening at halftime during next weekend's home game against South Alabama. The posts and billboards showcase a big blue eye with text that says: "First look. Next game. See the legacy begin." The school has not officially made the announcement, but it appears the plan is for the university to officially unveil the mascot at the halftime next weekend.
The Catahoula Leopard Dog is the official state dog of Louisiana, and has had that honor since 1979. The breed is named after Catahoula Parish, and is believed to be the only dog breed known to have historically originated in Louisiana. They feature a distinctive merle coat and striking ice-blue "glass" eyes.

There is not much information in regards to this announcement, so we'll have to wait a big longer to get the scoop. This is definitely not something Cajuns fans expected (at least not myself), but here we are. It finally feels good to say: The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns have a mascot again!
