It’s NBA All-Star weekend, baby!

It's time for a refresher for the players, coaches, referees, and fans. While the All-Star event is going to be a fun party in Salt Lake City, probably nothing will compare to the parties going on in New Orleans for Mardi Gras this weekend. However, things should get pretty exciting with our local boys repping the 504 in SLC.

Even with the ups and downs the New Orleans Pelicans have had this season, the local team still has a solid showing at this year’s all-star game. Zion Williamson was named a starter for the game but is unable to play due to his hamstring injury. Along with Zion, Pelicans guard Jose Alvarado and wing Trey Murphy III have been selected to participate in the 2023 Jordan Rising Stars for NBA All-Star Weekend, and Murphy has also been picked to perform in the Slam Dunk Contest.

The chances for us to watch our Pelicans in action are as follows:

Friday, Feb. 17 at 8 PM: Jordan Rising Start on TNT

The Jordan Rising Stars three-game mini-tournament gives a glimpse of the league’s youngest talent, which will include Murphy and Alvarado in these games. The games will be coached by NBA legends Pau Gasol, Joakim Noah, Deron Williams and Jason Terry. It will be a great showing of what is to come in the NBA.

Saturday, Feb. 18 at 7 PM: State Farm All-Star Saturday Night on TNT

3rd Event: AT&T Slam Dunk: Watch Trey Murphy use this length and athleticism as he competes against some of the league’s fly higher. He will be competing against Jericho Sims, Mac McClung and Kenyon Martin Jr.

To all the Pelicans fans: enjoy watching our guys do their thing without the pressure, enjoy the break from bad referee calls and missed bets, and enjoy the fun entertainment before Mardi Gras. Laissez les bon temps rouler!

Team Stats (Trail Blazers at Pelicans) Final Score: 120-143 Rebounds: 419-57 Assists: 27-36 Blocks: 7-8 Steals: 5-10 Turnovers: 15-8 Stat Leaders Scoring Leaders: Shaedon Sharpe, 21; Trey Murphy III, 24 Rebound Leaders: Kris Murray, 9; Yves Missi, Saddiq Bey, 8 Assist Leaders: Deni Avdija, 6; Derik Queen, 7 My Player of the Game: Derik Queen Chrissy's Key Takeaways * The Pelicans have won their fourth game of the season. Yay ! * Jordan Poole was back tonight and he made a world of difference. His three-point shooting, confidence, and leadership were a ton of help. * Derik Queen is a problem for all other 29 teams in this league. This kid has a vision that hasn't been seen in any recent rookies, especially for a center. * Bryce McGowens was the second-leading scorer in this game with 23 points. He's stepped up in a big way. * In surprising news, Zion Williamson is questionable for Sunday's game at the Chicago Bulls. This is the first time in what seems like years that Zion's health is actually improving much sooner than projected. Whether this is a sign of Zion pushing himself or James Borrego pushing him, it's nice to see. Follow @TheKneaux on X, and follow me there too, @SportsChrissy.
