Next Wave: The Squadron's 2026 Draft Class
Squadron 2026 Draft Recap
The 2026 NBA G League Draft delivered an exciting reset across the developmental circuit as franchises stocked up on fresh talent. For the Laketown Squadron—the New Orleans Pelicans' G League affiliate—the draft offered a key opportunity to refine depth, bolster playmaking, and add athletic versatility ahead of the new season.
Laketown kicked off draft day by selecting guard Themus Fulks (12th overall) out of Central Florida and interior forward T.J. Bickerstaff (14th overall) in the first round. However, the Squadron immediately leveraged those assets into a blockbuster draft-day trade, acquiring Chris Bell—the No. 4 overall pick—from Grand Rapids in exchange for Fulks and Bickerstaff to secure a premier perimeter threat early.
Continuing to work the board, Laketown kept their final pick of the first round, taking veteran guard Jordan Bone at 30th overall to bring speed and proven professional execution back to the backcourt.
In the second round, the Squadron added versatile wing Vance Jackson (46th overall), providing immediate perimeter length and scoring capability. Complementing their draft moves, Laketown also claimed David Cheatham off waivers to round out their incoming class.
With G League training camps underway, the Squadron's dynamic rookie class—headlined by high-upside acquisition Chris Bell—will immediately fight for rotation minutes. Expect these newcomers to play pivotal roles as Laketown shapes its squad for the upcoming campaign.
