LSU Women Stacked Going Into Next Season

The LSU women’s basketball team is poised to run it back.

After winning the 2023 NCAA women’s national championship, the Lady Tigers have signed the top two players in the transfer portal this offseason. Those two players are former DePaul forward Aneesah Morrow and former Louisville guard Hailey Van Lith. Along with these two, are a star-studded lineup that should make LSU the #1 team to beat next season.

Let’s break down the potential starting five for the Lady Tigers:

Hailey Van Lith

Last season she averaged 19.7 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 3.2 assists per game. She is a ballhandler, distributor, playmaker and scorer.

Aneesah Morrow

Last season she averaged 25.7 points, 12.2 rebounds, and 2.6 steals per game. She’s considered an offensive force and a beast on the boards.

Angel Reese

Last season she averaged 23 points, 15.4 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game. She was a force to be reckoned with on the glass, and provided an offensive threat every time she touched the ball.

Flau’jae Johnson

Last season she averaged 11 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game. She’s not only known for her presence on the court, but for her rap career that’s taking off.

Kateri Poole

Last season she averaged 4.5 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game. She’s a three-point threat and looks to add to her overall stats net season as a junior.

And for those who might not be starters, here’s who LSU will have coming off the bench:

- Mikaylah Williams (#2 recruit)

- Aalyah Del Rosario (#7 recruit)

- Last-Tear Poa

- Sa’Myah Smith

Additionally, Morrow and Angel Reese were the only D-I women's players to average 20 PPG/10 RPG over the last two seasons (min. 40 games).

Looking ahead to next season, although it’s early, ESPN does have the LSU Lady Tigers team as the favorite to win the national championship again. If they accomplish it, they could be eyeing the next women’s basketball dynasty since the UConn women won four in a row.

Team Stats (Trail Blazers at Pelicans) Final Score: 120-143 Rebounds: 419-57 Assists: 27-36 Blocks: 7-8 Steals: 5-10 Turnovers: 15-8 Stat Leaders Scoring Leaders: Shaedon Sharpe, 21; Trey Murphy III, 24 Rebound Leaders: Kris Murray, 9; Yves Missi, Saddiq Bey, 8 Assist Leaders: Deni Avdija, 6; Derik Queen, 7 My Player of the Game: Derik Queen Chrissy's Key Takeaways * The Pelicans have won their fourth game of the season. Yay ! * Jordan Poole was back tonight and he made a world of difference. His three-point shooting, confidence, and leadership were a ton of help. * Derik Queen is a problem for all other 29 teams in this league. This kid has a vision that hasn't been seen in any recent rookies, especially for a center. * Bryce McGowens was the second-leading scorer in this game with 23 points. He's stepped up in a big way. * In surprising news, Zion Williamson is questionable for Sunday's game at the Chicago Bulls. This is the first time in what seems like years that Zion's health is actually improving much sooner than projected. Whether this is a sign of Zion pushing himself or James Borrego pushing him, it's nice to see. Follow @TheKneaux on X, and follow me there too, @SportsChrissy.
