LSU women's team visits White House

The LSU women's basketball team visited the White House on Wednesday after being invited following their national championship win.

The visit had a scary moment, though, and not because President Joe Biden forgot his note cards. LSU forward Sa’Myah Smith suddenly collapsed as the president was making remarks. She was taken into the East Room to be cared for, and eventually left the room in a wheelchair. Smith, who is a freshman from Texas, played in every game for LSU this past season, averaging 4.6 points per game.

Once the ceremony resumed, Biden said this is not the first time something like this has happened, referring to someone fainting at the White House. There had been some uncertainty about LSU's visit to Washington after first lady Jill Biden previously suggested the Iowa women's basketball team should also receive an invitation to the White House. LSU defeated Iowa in the national title game.

LSU star Angel Reese, whom President Biden accidentally called "Angela" earlier in the day before correcting himself, shared a hug with the first lady at the celebration. The president seemed to make an attempt at mending fences by commending Reese for helping drive up the cost of tickets for LSU women's games.

President Biden and first lady Jill also received personalized LSU jerseys from co-captains Emily Ward and Reese.
