LSU vs BAMA Preview
The Tigers come back from their bye week to face off against a bitter rival in the Alabama Crimson Tide. The Tide and the Tigers are both sitting at 6-2, but each team has a different outlook on where its season stands based on that record.
The Tide are looking to reaffirm the early-season confidence they entered the season with following back-to-back losses to Georgia and Tennessee. LSU is entering this game being considered one of, if not the most dangerous team to play. The Tigers seem to improve each week, and their growth can be tied directly to the progress of their transfer QB, Sam Leavitt.
Leavitt has been balling over the past five weeks, completing at least 70% of his passes in each game. Currently, Leavitt has a 70% completion percentage for the season, which is the highest of his career. He also leads the SEC in passing yards, with over 2,100 yards through eight games.
The Tide feature a young, explosive QB in Keelon Russell. At one point this season, Russell was considered a Heisman favorite. The Tigers will have two advantages in this game:
1. They are playing at home.
2. The Tide’s offensive line is not strong, and they will more than likely be down two starters.
Russell has a 1:1 touchdown-to-interception ratio on the road, having thrown four touchdowns and four interceptions. The Tigers will have to attack him early and often, bringing pressure through the middle to prevent Russell from stepping up into the pocket. That interior pressure will have to be a priority since Bama will most likely be without its starting center, Racin Delgatty, and guard, William Sanders.
On offense, LSU needs to run the football and attack the Tide with quick passes early. Alabama has 12 interceptions on the season, and five of them have been returned for touchdowns. However, the Tide have also allowed 25 plays of 20 yards or more. If LSU can establish the quick passing game, at some point Alabama’s defenders will start jumping routes, and Leavitt should be able to beat them over the top.
This game feels like the advantage is on the side of the Tigers, and Vegas feels the same way, as LSU is favored by 6.5 points at home.
This game feels like the final score could be 27-17 LSU. The Tigers have yet to surrender 20 points in Death Valley this year, and in this game, Death Valley needs to be where Alabama’s playoff dreams come to die!
A quick share helps us a lot!
